The Sky Next Door 2002 Oil on canvas Image Size: 24 x 36 inches 61 x 91.4 cm SONYU0241
Beatiful experimentation into the colours of the sky, the title draws attention to the clever and inpsiring subject matter and the sense of playful humour makes this painting more than just a litteral depiction. It is a celebration of the sky itself but also a statement about the artists relationship with colour representation.
I love the contrast between the texture of the shiny floor and the plants and the winding slope that cuts and weaves through the installation creates motion and transitional space.
Green Jungle 1999 Dried seaweed, sponge, dried flowers, fabric, glue, tree branch, bark, acrylic paint, metal wire, clay Image Size: 36 x 52 x 79 inches
What an exciting and unusual use of media. I would like to experement with model making in this way, using found materials:tree branch and bark, as well as traditional paint and clay.
Amusement Romana 2004 Wood, paint, fiberglass Image Size: 165.35 x 649.61 x 403.54 inches 420 x 1650 x 1025 cm
I think the shape of this is wonderful and the colour is spot on.
The way these installations have been aranged highlights the false relationship between the space and the natural plants. I like the contrast between the shiny floor and the organic forms.

"Sone’s great love and fascination for nature, combined with a wholly open
approach to life and art galvanizes a highly unconventional art. Working in
various media, Sone makes installations, performance art, and films; he paints;
and like a traditional sculptor carves hard marble and crystal. A common thread
recognisable throughout Sone’s work is his willingness to take risks and
experiment, which at times can make some works appear to be unfinished or in a
state of flux. In this exhibition, Sone shows several of his exquisitely carved
marble pieces, some of which have never been shown before; a recreation of the
jungle, a maquette-like architectural landscape that includes snow-capped
mountains, rivers and living plants, all within the same self-contained world;
some twenty crystal snowflakes and a selection of new and recent paintings.
Sone was born in 1965 in Shizuoka, Japan, and now lives and works in Los
Angeles. "
